First 5 minutes after installing mine. I was a few blocks away still in a residential area. A guy  with a backpack ran across the road in front of me. Seemed a little odd but then I found out why he was running when a police officer ran in front of me chasi ng him. 3 years later nothing else...

I don’t own one, however i would like to. Watching dashcam footage is the number one thing that took me to the next level in my driving experience. As recent as 3 years ago i was having close calls with   on a weekly to monthly basis where other drivers would have been at fault. Now though it’s rare that i don’t foresee and proactively about an issue before it arises. Riding a motorcycle is the other thibg that helped change my perspective. Not getting preachy I promise (i was completely responsible for an accident of my own in the fall so no room to preach) but anyways. For in stance the merge situation with the tow truck. I either slow down or speed up, i never allow myself to linger near  another car on the divided highway  unless im directly behind or in front of it. Anyways that’s my half a cent. Also, nice car, hellcat or do they make non hellcats with that hood?

I see more stupid than crazy. These are representative examples of local driving:

that second one is a unique case where that one truck disrupted 3 separate vehicles not in a straight line

Nothing too exciting that I’ve seen. My top three:

Wind catches the rear bumper on a VW, rips off the right side of the bumper cover, which flies up vertical on the left before ripping off entirely. SUV swerves to dodge bumper cover. Footage lost...

Semi veers across three lanes to make its exit. Footage lost...

I just miss seeing an accident arriving in time to see the metal retainer ring from a hubcap still spinning around in the road. This one I do have, and I think I even have posted to youtube, but I’m too lazy to look it up right now (and it’s really not that exciting)

I believe having a dash camera provides me the Murphys law exemption where nothing interesting happens, so long as I have it running. The only interesting things I’ve captured were some bird strikes:

Lane discipline is a huge problem in my area. Watch these left lane hogs avoid the right lane even as all the signs warn that their lane is ending:

I do n’t run a dashcam, but here are the craziest moments I would have captured:

1. Chasing, stopping and confronting a truck driving down from Sandia Peak into Albuquerque. Spotted a dude beating on a girl inside the truck. I was only eighteen, but was with my BIL who had just finished up a tour in Iraq, played college football and was carrying, so he probably would have done most of the asskicking had these dudes tried to engage us. They ended up squaring up with us before deciding against it and fleeing again, with NM State troopers chasing them down minutes later.

2. Watching a truck swerve, then flip over outside of Show Low, Arizona, in the snow. Guy crawled out and was fine (and drunk).

3. Watching a guy ride the center divider on the AZ51 through the Phoenix Mountains at night , sparks flying everywhere.

I need to get a dashcam.

I run a forward and rear facing dash cam.

I caught a reckless driver clipping my car and running and it was very beneficial to my insurance company.

Other than that it has just been lots of bad drivers and close calls.

I have seen some crap, but somehow zero major collisions in my (shortish) driving car eer.

1. Idiot overtaking on an entrance ramp in a not quite wide enough debris strewn gore over a blind crest between a semi and a wall. I couldn’t see what happened next, but they would have been between much faster traffic and a semi that would have to merge into them with nowhere to go. Somehow, they escaped.

2. I couldn’t brake to avoid a stack of wooden pallets, but was driving my dad’s TRD Tundra so I was fine at 25 mph. I glanced in my rearview to see a pallet 10 ft in the air that landed (barely) behind the sedan that had to come to a complete stop to avoid it.

3. Some poor road design that has an interstate truck lane end around a blind crest and curve 10 ft before an exit. Semis panic braking to avoid getting crushed between another semi and an immovable wall to their right is not a fun sight, and it happens all too often.

It’s exactly what I expect from a brave hardworking warrior in a white work truck (or in the first one, a G-wagen on tax-dodging commercial plates).
